Week 1

Introduction

The course that I take for this trimester is Information Literacy. We start our first week with some introduction regarding this topic. Information literacy is basically a set of abilities requiring individuals to recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate and use effectively the needed information.

In order to solve problems or make decisions by using information, Big 6 is used.

The first step in Big 6 is task definition. For this step we have to define the information problem and identify the information needed. The second step is information seeking strategies where we have to determine all possible source and we have to choose the best source. The next step is location and access which mean we have to locate the source and find the information within the sources. The fourth step is use of information. For this step we have to engage and extract the relevant information. While the fifth step is synthesis, where we have to organize the multiple sources and present the information. The final step is evaluation. We need to judge the effectiveness of the product and the process efficiency during this step.
